What a Tech Blunder!

Updated: Jun 13

If you're reading this you likely received an email from me last Tuesday that was super weird. While I did send out an apology and almost everyone was cool with the glitch, I really wanted to explain what happened for those who want to know.

Last fall I stalled my real estate business to do the 2nd Annual North Van Cares Charity Gala. Since we levelled the gala up from 2022 it was a lot more work and a lot more sophisticated. However, that additional workload, while shared with my amazing volunteer team, fell mainly on my shoulders.

By the end of the gala I was completely burned out and overwhelmed so I took a little time to re-group.

In a business where GRIND, GRIND, GRIND is the mantra of many "taking time off" is not only seen as lazy it's a great way to bring your real estate business to a stand still.

While January is usually a time for business development and growth I was pressed into service to help my daughter, Layne, open Plunge Wellness in Squamish. It was a labour of love for her and a labour of love for me to help her. But, guess what? It didn't leave a ton of time for real estate either.

By March the slow down in both the market and my own business had taken a significant toll on my life and my mental health. I had to do something and fast.

I had already started the KEEPING IT REAL podcast but I wanted to do more, share more knowledge and help people have a great understanding of North Vancouver real estate. The High 5 Friday newsletter was born!

Five points every week that would be educational, inspiring, fun and sharable.

The response has been wonderful! The podcast has had over 500 downloads, the feedback has been great (I have a face for radio ;) and the rapport I was building with all of you was wonderful. My only goal with the High 5 Friday's was to keep you in the loop and remind you that I am a Realtor® so if you ever found yourself needing help you'd know you could call me.

To make it possible to send the newsletter to over 500 North Van folks I had to use a service and this is where things go a little sideways ;

For 6 weeks things were perfect with the service (well, not "perfect" but good enough) then last Tuesday the service took it upon itself to spam all of my contacts! Ugh!! No one was more upset about this than I was. When you're goal is to provide value and some artifical intelligence robot tries to spam your friends it's a real kick in the teeth!

I will say though, I am very grateful for those of you that took the time to tell me it was ok and that you recognized the spam. I hope I was able to respond to all of you. There were quite a few. (only one negative email in the lot which I'm taking as a win because you can't please everyone)

If you've read this far, thank you. I have had a very detailed conversation with the service I use and...well, we'll see I guess. ha ha ha.

As always, thank you all so much for your wonderful support of North Van Cares and of our great community. I have some exciting news coming later in the month. <3
