If you're heard of The North Van Cares Foundation then you've definitely heard of Backpack Buddies!
Our pals at Backpack Buddies are kind of heroes. At least they are to thousands of kids and families all over BC.
Did you know that there are almost 160,000 children living in British Columbia that don't know where their next meal is coming from? That's a shocking number for a wealthy province where most of us have more than enough.
The BC Government does a pretty great job in helping out kids who have food insecurity but those programs are delivered through the school and don't provide weekend meals. That's exactly what Joanne and Emily-Anne realized when they were looking into places in our world that were most in need.
On Friday afternoon the kids go home without knowing if they're eat that night or the next day. When kids have to spend all of their time worrying about where the next meal is coming from it's darn tough to do anything else, let alone learn or just be a kid.
Backpack Buddies is filling that gap by providing healthy meals to families in need. Every week they feed over 5000 kids across the province all from their warehouse in North Van.
I could go on and on but the info on their site is fantastic and tells you how you can help through volunteering or donation...or both!
